Poker: Cantu exacts revenge on Aguiar Back in October, the stars of the world of poker all swarmed to the French playfield of Cannes like a bunch of bees. The hive was the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) and it created a few superstars and broke a few hearts. One person whose heart was seemingly frozen and then smashed to bits with a hammer was Brandon Cantu. It was Day Four of the €10,450 Mixed Max No Limit Hold’em tournament, and it seemed to fans that Brandon Cantu was about to sling his third gold bracelet over his wrist. He was facing Jon Aguiar in a heads-up match that had lasted over six-hours when the casino told the players that it had to close its doors. Cantu later told PokerNews that Aguiar could not open his eyes and that he was destroying him so much that it was laughable. Aguiar then asked the World Series of Poker (WSOP) officials to postpone the resumption of the heads-up for one additional day so he could participate in the Main Event and they honoured his request. The decision to postpone the match infuriated Cantu, who believed that he had an edge over his opponent at this time. Cantu’s request to replay the match – immediately - fell upon deaf ears, and a fully recuperative Aguiar recovered to win the match and the WSOP bracelet. “I was f&*king robbed,” said Cantu. That sparked a post-match Twitter debate between the two and they decided to play each other heads-up for a $130,000 prize. That match took place in the Aria Poker Room earlier this week and Cantu won that match to give him some sense of satisfaction. “This teaches me a lesson that crying and complaining really does work in poker,” Tweeted Cantu after his victory.
